Student Advisors for Equity in Education
"It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education."

Mission
The Student Advisors for Equity in Education (SAFEE) mission is to engage with our educational community and conduct service projects to end inequity in schools by facilitating the learning of all students. Our Student Advisors will promote equity in education by sharing their talents, gifts, and knowledge to mentor others, customizing the individual support to each student through Zoom. Additionally, we will support our educators by helping them overcome barriers in the classroom. In SAFEE, we work to remove obstacles in the education system and provide opportunities for everyone.
Who We Are
We are a team of diverse and talented high school students that work together by mentoring, sharing hobbies, nurturing talents, and providing knowledge. By doing so, we will inspire and support other students in our communities with the use of virtual learning platforms (Zoom) and other volunteering/fundraising opportunities.
What is Equity in Education and what is the difference between Equity and Equality?
Equity in education is a system put in place to ensure that every student has an equitable chance for success. Although the words “equality” and “equity” can be used interchangeably, they have different meanings. Equality in education means treating every student the same way and giving them identical resources while equity in education means giving students what they NEED to be successful.
For example, a cactus needs lots of sunlight and very little water to thrive while a tulip requires a moderate amount of both sunlight and water. If both plants were given equal resources, lots of sunlight and very little water, the cactus would flourish while the tulip would die. In this situation, equal treatment does not result in equal results. However, if the plants were treated with equity and the cactus and tulip were given what they individually needed, both plants would thrive.
